Richard J. Bonenfant

“I am a proud Marine, serving with the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam conflict in 1967 and 1968. I then served in the financial planning industry for over 20 years, making the decision to pursue my law degree at Chapman University in 1997. After receiving my degree, I became licensed in Kentucky and began my practice as a Public Defender in 2001. I then specialized as a Juvenile Defender and currently am certified as a Guardian Ad Litem in Campbell County Family Court. I am also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) and a volunteer with the Kentucky Lawyer’s Assistance Program (KYLAP). I believe all work is noble, and that all who work are noble. Nothing is more exciting to me than helping a deserving client obtain justice.”

“I received an undergraduate degree in fine art from Northern Kentucky University in 2008. After graduating, I devoted five years to working with and for people with disabilities, primarily in conjunction with Visionaries + Voices to help artists achieve professional success through careers in the arts. I chose to go back to school and obtain my law degree so that I could expand my skills and be of greater service to those in need. I have served as an assistant in the Chase College of Law Faculty Research Department and as an intern in the Newport Public Defender’s office.  I also represented incarcerated individuals in civil suits against the state of Ohio as an intern at the Ohio Justice and Policy Center. I take a creative, investigatory approach to legal problems, and believe that each client’s unique legal situation deserves my finest effort.”
